Oklahoma vs Kansas State, 55-0: Full highlights, final score and more
The Oklahoma Sooners went into Manhattan, Kansas and destroyed the Kansas State Wildcats on the road.
After each team suffered a tough loss last week, the question all week was, who is going to respond? That question was answered very quickly in Manhattan, Kansas as the Oklahoma Sooners went in and destroyed the Kansas State Wildcats.
The Sooners wasted absolutely no time in going down the field and scoring when quarterback Baker Mayfield found Sterling Shepard for a 22-yard touchdown as head coach Bob Stoops looked on without his classic visor as he honored Steve Spurrier, who resigned this week at South Carolina. It would be one of five touchdown passes on the day for Mayfield, who continued to flash his brilliance.
The Sooners as they would all day, would take advantage of an inept Kansas State offense. After Jordan Thomas intercepted Joe Hubener, Mayfield would find Joe Mixon for a touchdown to build the Sooner lead to 14-0. From there the rout was on of Kansas State by the Sooners offense.
By the end of the first half, the Oklahoma Sooners were up big 35-0 and Mayfield had all five of his touchdown passes. To make matters worse for Kansas State, on the very first possession of the second half, Zack Sanchez would return an interception 35 yards for the touchdown.
From there, Oklahoma would just run the ball the rest of the day with backups in and Kansas State would try their best to get off the field to get off the field as quick as possible. The Sooners would tack on a couple of more field goals and in the fourth, Oklahoma would continue to pound the ball down the field via the run and Joe Mixon would run it in from the one-yard line to cap off the day for the Sooners.
Highlights
Three Stars
3. Zack Sanchez
With the Sooners rolling in the first half, it was imperative that they didn’t get relaxed in the second half and allow Kansas State to make plays to get back into the game. That didn’t happen because Zack Sanchez returned an interception to the house to put Oklahoma up 42-0 on the Wildcats.
2. Sterling Shepard
The premiere receiving threat for the Sooners, Sterling Shepard, had a big day receiving and was a favorite target of young quarterback Baker Mayfield. Shepard scored the Sooners’ first points of the day by scoring on a 22-yard reception. He finished with four catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
1. Baker Mayfield
After a tough loss last week, it was time for the young quarterback to apply lessons learned this week. Mayfield was nothing short of dynamic as he made big plays with his legs and most importantly used his arm to beat the Wildcats. He had five touchdowns in the first half and that would be all for the young quarterback. He finished with 21 of 28 passing for 282 yards and five touchdowns.
Odds
Oklahoma came into the game as a four-point favorite. They covered the spread by a very wide margin. It was a day of easy money for those that bet on the Sooners.
Next Week
The Oklahoma Sooners will return home next week to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders as their schedule continues to get tougher. The Sooners will look to quarterback Baker Mayfield to once again be dynamic on the field with his legs and his arm.
After two tough losses at home, Kansas State will have no time to sulk about their defeats as they have to get prepared to go on the road and face the Texas Longhorns.
