The No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes picked up another win at home by defeating the visiting Penn State Nittany Lions

The Ohio State Buckeyes rolled out their new black uniforms as Ohio Stadium hosted a blackout. The Penn State Nittany Lions came out with some fight in them, but ultimately were did in by big plays toward the end of the first half by the Buckeyes.

On the first Penn State drive, quarterback Christian Hackenberg found Chris Goodwin deep for 45 yards. The Nittany Lions would kick a field goal to go up 3-0 and it looked like it was going to be a struggle for Ohio State. A few drives later, it looked like Penn State was going to open up the lead to 10-0 on a Saquon Barkley touchdown run, but a holding penalty nullified it.

The Buckeyes would find some groove from there and suddenly wake up on offense. J.T. Barrett would take over for Cardale Jones in the red zone and would make plays happen with his legs as he ran in for a five yard touchdown runs.

The Buckeyes would tack on a couple of more impressive touchdowns before the end of the first half, when Ezekiel Elliot and J.T. Barrett both ran in a couple of touchdowns and the Buckeyes after almost falling in a double digit deficit, were suddenly up 18 at the half.

Penn State would score to start the half as they tried to make it a game, but that would be all that they would muster on offense as the Buckeyes defense became more sound. In the fourth, they would drive to Ohio State territory, but a turnover on downs, gave the ball back to Ohio State.

As for Ohio State in the second half, they tacked on a field goal and would cap off the evening with some incredible plays from J.T. Barrett, who feigned a run and pump faked as he hopped in the air and found Braxton Miller for a wide open touchdown to put Ohio State up 31-10. Then late in the game, he found Michael Thomas in the corner of the endzone as the Buckeyes went up 38-10.

Highlights

Three Stars

3. Saquon Barkley

Despite being on the losing side, Saquon Barkley absolutely impressed with his performance Saturday night and was the Penn State offense. He had multiple carries on the night and should have had a touchdown for his efforts if not for a holding call. He finished the night with 26 rushes for 194 yards.

2. Ezekiel Elliot

Ezekiel Elliot was once again fantastic as he was fed the ball by the Ohio State offense and moved the ball down the field. He hurdled defenders and made Penn State miss tackles. Before the end of the second half, Elliot picked up a touchdown on an eight-yard run. He finished with 27 carries for 153 yards and one touchdown.

1. J.T. Barrett

J.T. Barrett performed his new role as the red zone quarterback to perfection. He also made plays in the open field when he wasn’t in the red zone. He came in and put points on the board for the Buckeyes with his arm and legs. He ran two touchdowns in and made an incredible play where he feigned a run and found Braxton Miller wide open for the touchdown. He finished four of four for 30 yards passing and two touchdowns and with 11 rushes for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Odds

Ohio State was favored by 17 coming into the game. With the 28 point win over Penn State, the Buckeyes covered the spread.

Next Week

After the big win at home, Ohio State goes on the road next week to play Rutgers. It should be another great chance for the Buckeyes to remain undefeated on the road, so long as they don’t overlook their opponent.

Penn State will be on the road once again next week when they take on Maryland.
