Here’s a look at seven important things we’ve learned through seven weeks of the 2015 college football regular season.
It’s hard to fathom that seven weeks of the 2015 college football regular season have come and gone.
It’s been a wild, unpredictable season so far. The national title picture is anything but clear, and there is no definitive best team in the country. Baylor and TCU are putting up offensive numbers that are difficult comprehend, but neither the Bears nor Horned Frogs have faced a truly tough defense thus far. The Ohio State Buckeyes, defending national champions, are still undefeated, but they haven’t looked like the unstoppable juggernaut everyone was anticipating. The Utah Utes have been this year’s surprise contender, but everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop in Salt Lake City. Then there are the Michigan State Spartans, who escaped Saturday with one of the most improbable wins you’ll ever see.
And that doesn’t even begin to get into the SEC teams.
Unpredictability is what makes college football great. If there’s anything lifelong college football fans know, it is to always expect the unexpected. A team can look like a world-beater one weekend and a clown the next. Nothing is guaranteed, not even wins over FCS teams. As wild of a ride as it has been so far this season, things are only going to get crazier from here.
But before we get too involved with projecting the final month of the season, it’s time to take a step back and look at the lessons we’ve learned through the first seven weeks. Consider it a midterm that you don’t have to study for.
