Golden Tate scores on controversial catch (VIDEO)
The Detroit Lions are a terrible football team. In fact, they are the only team in the National Football League without a win.
They are trying to change that on Sunday afternoon at Ford Field against the Chicago Bears, and might have gotten some help from the men in the stripes. In the second quarter, the Lions were leading 14-13 when Matthew Stafford fired a touchdown pass to Golden Tate. Or was it? You decide…
Tate does catch the ball but does not take two steps before losing control of the ball. It then gets batted around and finally intercepted, leading multiple Bears players to celebrate. However, the ruling was a touchdown, giving Detroit a 21-13 lead going into halftime. The Lions have had a couple of really bad breaks this year, including the end of their loss against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4 on Monday Night Football. Perhaps this helps to ease the pain.
Chicago has been playing much better since Jay Cutler returned to the starting lineup after recovering from a torn hamstring. Cutler was able to lead a pair of fourth-quarter comebacks against the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs, getting the Bears to a 2-3 record. Chicago is somehow back in the NFC wild card race, something nobody could have expected.
