The Carolina Panthers were trying to extend their record to 5-0, but the Seattle Seahawks were hungry for a big home victory.

87. Final. 23. 36. 27

Both the Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks are looking to prove something about their respective starts to the season. Carolina wanted to prove that its 4-0 start was no fluke while the Seahawks wanted to show that their 2-3 start was a fluke.

Seattle came out strong and took a solid 20-7 lead over the Panthers through most of three quarters and then the game got closer near the end. The Panthers actually took a four-point lead over the Seahawks with just 30 seconds remaining, forcing Russell Wilson to try and engineer a game-winning drive.

Greg Olsen had himself a great day for the Panthers while Marshawn Lynch scored his first touchdown of the season, coming back from a hamstring injury.

This is the second straight week in which the Seahawks have blown a two-plus score lead to lose at the end of the game.

Three Stars

Greg Olsen was just a stud for the Panthers, catching seven passes for 131 yards and the game-winning touchdown.

The Seahawks’ tight end, Jimmy Graham, had his best game of the year, finishing with eight catches for 140 yards even though Seattle came up just short.

Jonathan Stewart was a beast at the goal-line for Carolina, scoring two big second half touchdowns and adding 78 yards.

Highlights

Odds

Seattle was a seven-point favorite heading into this one and the over/under was just 41 points. The Panthers defeated the Seahawks by four, so if you picked Carolina to improve to 5-0, you’re in luck. Also, hopefully you took the over.

Next Week

The Seahawks play division rival San Francisco next week as the 49ers are at the bottom of the NFC West while Seattle is just ahead of them. A win for either side would be huge for the surprisingly weak divisional race.

Carolina is still in first place in the NFC South division standings after the Panthers’ big win  and it looks like a matchup next Sunday night against an average Philadelphia Eagles squad could put their confidence over the top.
