Colts head coach Chuck Pagano doesn’t regret the call that led to one of the worst mistakes in NFL history
The Indianapolis Colts became the laughing stock of the NFL on Sunday Night Football against the New England Patriots when a called fake punt that was never actually supposed to have the ball snapped resulted in a turnover on downs. It was one of the worst plays that we may have ever seen.
And Colts head coach Chuck Pagano doesn’t regret making the call at all.
Discussing the egregious error on Monday, Pagano said that he didn’t regret the call, per NFL.com. Pagano stated that he and his staff were to blame for not preparing their players for the situation, but that the play call designed to try and either draw a penalty or force the Patriots to burn a timeout was something that he would do again.
Pagano continued to defend the call, saying that it failed due to miscommunication and not because it was a bad play call. He also maintained that the ball wasn’t supposed to be snapped and the fact that it was is the evidence that he and his staff hadn’t prepared the team properly.
Pagano has been under fire after his team’s slow start to the 2015 season and this is only going to add fuel to said fire. Not only is he taking blame for not having his players ready for a certain situation, but is also steadfastly maintaining that he made a solid play call when just about anyone who saw what happened would refute that. That hot seat is about to be boiling.
