The Philadelphia Eagles are desperate for a win on Monday Night Football against the New York Giants at Lincoln Financial Field. It appears they will be achieving their purpose, with a 24-7 lead late in the third quarter.
Philadelphia was leading 17-7 when it decided to start feeding running back DeMarco Murray. Eventually, a balanced drive led the Eagles to New York’s 12-yard line. From there, quarterback Sam Bradford handed off to Murray, who set sail for the right side, stiff-armed safety Brandon Meriweather into oblivion, and scored for a 17-point lead.
The touchdown is Murray’s third rushing touchdown with the Eagles. As of the scoring play, Murray has 10 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown on the evening, finally looking productive in the green and white.
Murray led the National Football League in rushing yardage last year with the Dallas Cowboys, running behind the best offensive line in the game. With the Eagles, Murray has endured challenges in finding holes, bottled up on a majority of his carries.
Head coach Chip Kelly signed Murray to a $42 million deal in the offseason, hoping that he would pair with fellow free-agent acquisition to replace All-Pro LeSean McCoy. To this point, the duo has been something of a bust, although there is plenty of time to get that rectified. Philadelphia needs the rushing attack to pick up, with the Eagles currently sitting at 2-3 but in the mix for the NFC East title.
