Josh Donaldson caps off monster inning with homer
By Ian O'Brien
Josh Donaldson put the icing on the cake for the Toronto Blue Jays as they roughed up Johnny Cueto.
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson joined in on the third-inning fun by hitting a two-run home run. The Blue Jays now lead the Kansas City Royals, 9-3, after four innings. This capped off an inning that consisted of six runs for the defending American League East champions.
Royals starting pitcher Johnny Cueto’s playoff struggles came back as he allowed eight runs, and one of the runs driven in by Donaldson was attributed to him. Here is a video of the likely American League MVP blasting it out of the park.
The Blue Jays appeared to be getting another fight from the Royals early on. The defending American League champions struck first in the opening inning with an RBI ground out from second baseman Ben Zobrist. The Blue Jays fought back shortly after and took a 3-1 lead. After the Royals responded with another run of their own, the Blue Jays exploded in the third inning. Donaldson capped off this thrilling inning by showing shortstop Troy Tulowitzki who’s boss. Tulowitzki hit a three-run homer earlier in the inning.
Donaldson has strongly benefited from playing in a loaded Blue Jays offense that consists of other stars such as Tulowitzki and right fielder Jose Bautista. He hit 41 home runs with 123 runs batted in during the regular season. This will more than likely be enough for him to beat out Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout for the AL MVP award.
