Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said wide receiver Dez Bryant could return this weekend.
Wide receiver Dez Bryant was the first superstar player to go down for the Dallas Cowboys this season, and has been fighting to get back on the field to help his team remain in contention for the NFC East crown.
During an interview on Tuesday, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said that Bryant’s return could come in Week 7 against the New York Giants.
Jones said it all depends on how Bryant is doing, how he looks in practice. He also suggested that Bryant didn’t need to be 100 percent to return.
“It will be satisfactory,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan’s Shan and RJ show [KRLD-FM], via the Dallas Morning News. “I don’t know what 100 percent really means in this particular case, 100 percent healed? One-hundred percent from the standpoint of no sensation, no sensitivity?
“I don’t think you would have no sensitivity. But I do think that the combination of all the work he’s done, which has been extraordinary, as well as some of the additional procedures that were done, give us a lot of confidence that if he’s comfortable to putting it down and driving off his foot, then we’re comfortable with him playing.
“Everybody will get a feel for it, but more importantly, he’ll get a feel for it. He’s the key. He’ll have to decide, does he push off on it? This is strictly, ‘Do you feel comfortable making your cuts? If you do, then it’s on go. If not, then we’ll wait a week.'”
Bryant’s timeteable for a return has been reported of various lengths over the course of the season, some at somepoint suggesting it could be nearly 10 weeks.
The Cowboys sit at 2-3 behind the Eagles and Giants, who are each 3-3 and tied for first place, in the division. If the Cowboys want to make a Super Bowl run, the Cowboys need to stay in the race atop the NFC East while they await Tony Romo’s return in late November.
The Cowboys are also going to start Matt Cassel at quarterback, replacing Brandon Weeden.
