Unless Julius Thomas or Charles Clay are hanging out on your leagues’ waiver wire, there isn’t a lot to like on the tight end portion of the fantasy football wavier wire.  Ben Watson had a monster game, but I don’t love his long-term outlook and see week 6 as a huge outlier.  If you are forced to hit the wire looking for a fill-in, I’d check out Chargers’ tight end Ladarius Green especially if you only need him for this week.

Green had a stint earlier this season as the team’s starting tight end, but Anotnio Gates has returned from suspension and reclaimed his job, but there is still work enough for Green to do in the Chargers’ pass-heavy attack. With Stevie Johnson ailing and the Chargers forced to throw the ball often, Philip Rivers has kept Green involved even with Gates’ return.  Green missed a week with an injury, but he has at least four targets in every other game.  Until his last week, he had at least 47 yards in each game (he had 35 this week), and he has three touchdown catches in his five contests.

He is a high-risk pickup, but I think he’s worth a gamble especially if you just need a one-week solution.  This week, the Chargers host the Raiders who have been completely unable to defend opposing tight ends this season.  Green and Gates should both be good plays in week seven, so roll the dice on the Chargers second TE if you need a starting option this week.
