Giants’ TE Daniel Fells released from hospital after MRSA infection
After weeks in the hospital for a dangerous MRSA infection, New York Giants tight end Daniel Fells was released from the hospital.
After spending weeks in the hospital with an MRSA infection that almost cost him his foot, New York Giants tight end Daniel Fells is finally being released from the hospital according to NFL.com, and it looks like the medical prognosis is good for him.
After the MRSA infection had worsened, Fells had spent the time in the hospital undergoing treatment after treatment as doctors worked effortlessly around the clock to rid him of the infection and do whatever it took for them to be able to save his foot.
While Fells doesn’t appear to need his foot amputated, he will have two more surgeries as doctors continue to clean his foot and remove the infection according to Ian Rapoport.
"At least two more surgeries are scheduled, mostly to ensure that the infected area is clean, properly medicated, and washed out. The infected bone has been removed, and antibiotics are treating his lungs. When he is allowed home (Fells is not contagious), he’ll have a nurse and physical therapist for several months."
It’s certainly much better news for Fells, then had long been previous feared with the serious infection. The fact that he is able to keep his foot is a testament to his ability to fight and the doctor’s ability to save his foot and prevent having to amputate it.
While it’s good that doctors have been able to save his foot, it doesn’t seem likely that he will be able to return to the football field again, with the damage that his foot has suffered.
"Fells has a long road ahead, and rehabbing will be his focus now that he’s unlikely to return to the field with his foot forever damaged. As one source close to him said, “He’s been through so much.”"
It’s always tough to see a career brought to an end early because of a medical issue, and any football fan’s heart has to pour out at a time like this for Fells. On the flip side, the silver lining for Fells is that he will be able to keep his foot and now doesn’t have to worry about staying in a hospital anymore and can go home and finally rest.
