According to reports, New Orleans Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans had successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

The New Orleans Pelicans could be without a key player for a little bit. After suffering from some knee soreness, Tyreke Evans has reportedly had successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

For the Pelicans, it’s a week until the regular season and with basketball being a long season, until April, they will probably wait until he’s fully healthy before putting him back on the court.

There is also reportedly no timetable set for his return either.

Last year, Evans played a big role in the Pelicans offense alongside the likes of Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday, as the young team made a big push toward making the postseason before being eliminated in the first round by the eventual champion Golden State Warriors.

It’s tough news for the Pelicans and Evans alike, because Evans is coming off of a season where he played in a career high amount of games, when he played 79. He also posted averages of 16.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game en route to being a critical part of the team’s offense.

Under new head coach Alvin Gentry, the Pelicans offense is sure to be fast and exciting, while running through superstar Anthony Davis. Not having Evans out there to help run it alongside Holiday, will certainly make it tougher on the Pelicans early on.

In the Western Conference, where every win is important in terms of making the playoffs, the Pelicans can’t afford to fall behind early in the standings. The good news is that the surgery should have him back rather soon and there doesn’t appear to be anything too serious going on in the knee.

This is a big year for the Pelicans as they aim to take the next step as a franchise. Having players healthy is a must for them to do so.
