5 MLB free agents-to-be who have helped themselves this postseason
5. Alex Gordon
It was a rough year for Gordon, who lost nearly two months of his season due to severely torn groin in a nasty outfield spill, just a day after being announced as an All-Star for the third time in as many years.
As one of the game’s elite defenders and owner of a versatile bat capable of producing anywhere throughout a lineup, his value is unquestionable.
But he is fully healthy again now and playing his best baseball now as the Royals need it most. Through five games in the American League Championship Series, he is carrying a .313 average, while adding in a pair of doubles and a five runs scored as well.
Yet the most intriguing thing for Gordon is that he holds the keys to his own destiny, as he possesses a player option for $12 million in 2016 that he can exercise next month if he decides to. While he has long said that he wants to remain a Royal for the long haul, temptation to see what his value could be may prove too hard to resist if Gordon continues to make the type of impact he currently is throughout the rest of the Royals’ run.
