Buccaneers RB Doug Martin has a new nickname
After being stuck with the nickname “muscle hamster,” Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin has a new nickname that he likes much better.
Everyone in life has been saddled with a nickname that they hate. By the time a player gets to the pros, they usually get an awesome nickname and branding and marketing take off from there as the athlete can capitalize on their performance and their nickname.
For Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin, that wasn’t the case as he was saddled with a nickname that was terrible and poked fun at his short muscular statue. Martin, who many have called the “muscle hamster” has been on record multiple times about just how much he hates his nickname.
Well things are about to get a lot better for Martin, as he has a new nickname and one that sounds far better than “muscle hamster.”
According to ProFootballTalk, during a Wednesday interview with reporters after practice, Martin spoke about his new nickname. The new nickname the running back is being referred to as now, is “The Dougernaut.”
Right off the bat, it sounds so genius and simple. It makes you wonder why that wasn’t thought of before the nickname “muscle hamster.” It’s a perfect play on his name, and with the resurgence Martin has had in the backfield for the Buccaneers this season, he has been a juggernaut or “Dougernaut” if you will.
Rather than an old tired passed around nickname for short buff guys, this one fits what he does on the field, his personality and isn’t demeaning in any shape or form.
Great nicknames have been a forever staple of sports and a great name can make a player. For Doug Martin, this is the nickname he deserves and the nickname that he should have had from the beginning.
