The New York Mets will represent the National League in the World Series
The New York Mets are heading to the World Series as the National League Champions after the tortured club prevailed over yet another tortured club in the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night in Wrigley Field by a score of 8-3. The Mets jumped out to a big lead in the first inning and starter Steven Matz and the rest of the New York bullpen held on to get the monstrous win.
The Mets needed only four games to get past the Cubs and move onto the World Series as their win in Game 4 on Wednesday night completed the sweep in the NLCS. New York scored at least four runs in each of the four games while only allowing more than two runs in the finale of the four game series.
New York will be in the World Series for the first time since 2000 when they came into the playoffs as a wild card team and made it all the way to the biggest stage of the MLB postseason for a Subway Series between the Mets and the New York Yankees that was ultimately won in five games by the Yankees.
Now the Mets will await the winners of the ALCS between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Kansas City Royals. New York will be trying to win their first World Series title since 1986 when they defeated the Boston Red Sox in the series that included the infamous Bill Buckner play. They haven’t needed a stroke of luck like that to this point, but I’m sure they would more than appreciate it whenever the 2015 World Series does get underway, just in case.
