College Football Results Against The Spread Week 7

facebooktwitterreddit

I was sitting at .500 (153-153) after six weeks of football. Did I get back above .500 this week? I think I did pretty well this week, at least from the games I watched. It’s those ones that I didn’t pay that much attention to that usually do me in.

Here are the picks from last week just in case you want to follow along!

I was still under water by the points system (-15), so hopefully I at least got that back up to par! Let’s check the damage. Here are the college football results against the spread for week 7:

Winners against the spread are in BOLD.

Arkansas State(-3.5) at South Alabama: MISS! A 29 point fourth quarter outburst by the Red Wolves did me in here. South Alabama was in control before that.

Auburn(-2.5) at Kentucky: MISS! So much for Kentucky taking that next step. You have to win games like this on your own turf if you want to be taken seriously.

Western Kentucky(-32.5) at North Texas: MISS! Nice rebound for the Mean Green at home after losing by 59 points to a FCS team…..

UCLA at Stanford(-6.5): MISS! I knew better. I gave UCLA too much credit for an entirely average defense.

Cincinnati at BYU(-6,5): HIT! Sometimes all you need is to get that first one off your chest!

Houston(-19.5) at Tulane: HIT! This offense is fun to watch. It’s almost like a more athletic Andre Ware back there!

Boise State(-9.5) at Utah State: HIT! I didn’t expect the Aggies to blow them out, but hey, a win is a win!

UNLV(-6.5) at Fresno State: MISS! Marteze Waller finally showed what he can do. This was really the only below average defense that Fresno has faced this year.

Western Michigan at Ohio(-4.5): MISS! Nothing like losing by 35 when you are favored by five…..

Eastern Michigan at Toledo(-28.5): HIT! Toledo got the blowout win, AND got to rest ailing star RB Kareem Hunt. It was a win-win for the Rockets.

South Florida at Connecticut(-2.5): MISS! The Bulls defense came through in this one.

Tulsa at East Carolina(-13.5): MISS! That stupid half!

Purdue at Wisconsin(-23.5): HIT! The Badger offense is not capable of blowing anyone out, though the defense still makes it look like they dominated the other team.

Marshall(-4.5) at Florida Atlantic: HIT! Marshall had no problems here.

Florida International at Middle Tennessee State(-11.5): HIT! A 15 point fourth quarter for the Panthers saved my hide here.

Texas Tech(-32.5) at Kansas: MISS! This might be the best defensive game Kansas has played all year.

West Virginia at Baylor(-20.5): HIT! Well, the Bears didn’t cover it by at least a TD more, but it was a methodical beat-down none the less.

Iowa(-1.5) at Northwestern: HIT! I expected an Iowa win, but I did not expect them to put up 40 on the Wildcats in Evanston. The Hawkeyes have to be the team to beat in the Big Ten(14) West.

Mississippi(-10.5) at Memphis: MISS! This was the biggest win for the Tigers program in at least the last 50 years, probably ever.

Louisiana Tech at Mississippi State(-13.5): HIT! The Bulldogs aren’t as proficient on the ground, but this is still a very good team.

Louisville at Florida State(-7.5): HIT! Easy money. Dalvin Cook is getting a lot of love after his last two performances on the national stage.

Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech(-3.5): HIT! Pitt straight up it was!

Buffalo at Central Michigan(-6.5): HIT! I didn’t see that beatdown coming. That might be Buffalo’s worst single game performance in the last decade!

Northern Illinois(-15.5) at Miami(OH): HIT! I’m not sure why I was nervous about this one….

Akron at Bowling Green(-10.5): HIT! More easy money!

Georgia State at Ball State(-13.5): MISS! I guess I really dropped the BALL here……yuk yuk

Kent State at Massachusetts(-6.5): MISS! Kent’s defense is light years ahead of their offense. They scored five second half points to secure the win.

Air Force(-3.5) at Colorado State: MISS! The Rams needed this.

Idaho at Troy(-11.5): HIT! I didn’t quite expect Idaho to win outright, but that just reiterates how bad Troy has been.

Virginia Tech at Miami(FL)(-3.5): HIT! The way the fan base is going, you would think that Miami is 2-4 instead of 4-2. This was a good win for the Hurricanes.

Alabama(-3.5) at Texas A&M: MISS! If you take away the three interception returns for touchdowns that Alabama had, I win this…..

Syracuse at Virginia(-7.5): MISS! I was hoping for that third overtime so I at least still had a chance to get this right….

Oklahoma(-4.5) at Kansas State: HIT! I expected Oklahoma to show up. What I didn’t expect was a beatdown like the Sooners did to them in the 1980’s before Bill Snyder got there.

Rutgers at Indiana(-5.5): MISS! Rutgers outscored Indiana 22-0 in the fourth to steal this one.

Michigan State at Michigan(-7.5): HIT! This was the most bizarre end of a game I have seen in a very long time. This is right up there with the band being on the field in 1983. I had the pick right anyway, but man, I feel bad for Michigan. They outplayed the Spartans for the entire game. It was after time expired that they didn’t.

Nebraska at Minnesota(-2.5): MISS! I knew better. Minnesota is one of the worst passing teams in the country and Nebraska is in the top ten in run defense.

Charlotte at Old Dominion(-5.5): MISS! That’s what I get for putting four points on a game based solely on past results and not how they look.

Vanderbilt at South Carolina(-2.5): HIT! A good second half rally got a win that SC needed badly.

Oregon State at Washington State(-7.5): HIT! Don’t look now, but the Cougars are hitting their stride under Mike Leach. Things are going to get a lot more interesting in the Pac 12.

Nevada(-6.5) at Wyoming: MISS! Well, that was ugly. Congratulations to Wyoming on their first win of the season!

New Mexico State at Georgia Southern(-30.5): HIT! I won it by that half.

Appalachian State(-13.5) at Louisiana-Monroe: HIT! Appalachian State is a force in the Sun Belt. This was a dominating performance.

Hawaii at New Mexico(-5.5): MISS! Hawaii controlled this game for much of it only to lose in the final minute.

Florida at LSU(-7.5): MISS! I am 1-2 against the halves this week….

Wake Forest at North Carolina(-16.5): HIT! I was wrong. North Carolina pulled away in the first half.

Boston College at Clemson(-17.5): HIT! I said BC because of the half!

UTSA at Southern Mississippi(-9.5): MISS! You just never know about UTSA, I guess…..

TCU(-20.5) at Iowa State: MISS! The Cyclones didn’t score after the first quarter. So much for not letting TCU run off with it….

Central Florida at Temple(-20.5): MISS! This was never in question, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

USC at Notre Dame(-5.5): MISS! USC just couldn’t stop Prosise in the fourth quarter.

Missouri at Georgia(-14.5): HIT! Once again, Missouri’s defense was outstanding. The offense? Not so much.

Penn State at Ohio State(-18.5): MISS! The Buckeyes still didn’t play that great of a game. Penn State is just that bad.

Arizona(-6.5) at Colorado: HIT! What do you know, I did need that half!

Arizona State at Utah(-5.5): HIT! A big fourth quarter allowed the Utes to pull away.

Oregon at Washington(-2.5): MISS! Never underestimate just how bad an average offense can look. If it weren’t for Myles Gaskin, this would have been a blowout.

San Diego State at San Jose State(-2.5): HIT! More easy money to end the week!

This week I went 29-27 to put me at 183-181 on the season I’m back to a little above .500. I can be happy with that. Let’s see how the points shook out. The season totals are in parenthesis.

1. 3-2 (21-21)

2. 8-8 (58-46)

3. 11-9 (61-66)

4. 4-5 (30-34)

5. 3-3 (13-14)

This week I only gained three points, which brings me to -12 on the season. I’ve still got some work to do on this front. I need to be more judicial in my five point wagers.

Stay tuned for some Saturday FanDuel picks and all of my picks against the spread for week 8!
