St. Louis Blues were given a scare when left-winger Jaden Schwartz left practice and was taken to the hospital after colliding with the goal post on Friday.

A seemingly innocent Friday practice became a bit scarier for the St. Louis Blues when left-wing Jaden Schwartz suffered a freak injury and was taken to the hospital, per Jeremy Rutherford the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The 24-year-old Schwartz, who is in his fifth season with the team, was performing an innocuous drill when he appeared to lose his edge while attempting to corral a puck. Schwartz spun and hit the goal post before sliding into the net, per the report.

Schwartz was immediately attended to by the training staff and it was determined at that point that he would immediately head to the hospital for further observation. He was carried off by trainer Ray Barile and assistant coach Kirk Muller, and it appears as though he suffered an injury of some sort to his left, as Schwartz put no pressure on it on his way off the ice.

Through seven games in 2015, Schwartz has a plus/minus of +4 and has accumulated four assists while serving on the team’s second line. The fifth-year player has been solid over the last two seasons, averaging a plus/minus of +20.5 and totaling 53 goals and 66 assists since 2013-14.

At this time, there is no time-table or update as to Schwartz’s injury or condition. However, the coach Ken Hitchcock seemed to be concerned that the injury may be somewhat serious considering how Schwartz left practice.

“We’ll see how serious it is tomorrow, but obviously he couldn’t finish practice. That’s the first alarm bell that goes off, that he couldn’t finish the practice. We’ll see in the morning. See if it’s serious or not. I’ve been in it a long time, I’ve never seen that in my life, in a warmup drill, the guy goes down.”

In his absence, the Blues have recalled forward Ty Rattie from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. Rattie has just 11 games of NHL experience under his 22-year-old belt, having two assists in those games. However, he’s been pretty solid back with the Wolves this season, having put up four goals and three assists in his first three games this season.
