This week we dive in the deep waters of the waiver wire by predicting players who are less likely owned in your league that has the potential to break out or score enough fantasy points to help win your match-up.

These recommendations are for deep leagues, or if your in a bind and need to pick a player off the waiver wire Sunday morning. If you have lineup questions feel free to contact me on Twitter @bmatz08.

Lets take a look at last week’s selections:

Blake Bortles 35.25 fantasy points

Michael Floyd 16 fantasy points

Theo Riddick 10.80 fantasy points

Crockett Gilmore 6 fantasy points

For deep waiver wire selections, Blake Bortles, Michael Floyd and Theo Riddick were great selections. Crockett Gilmore was a bust last week. Week six’s group scored a total of 68.05 fantasy points. Not bad, considering we were selecting players from the bottom of the waiver wire.

Quarterback

Zach Mettenberger, Tennessee Titans (Sun 1:00 PM vs. Atlanta Falcons)

He’s owned in one percent of ESPN leagues, and he’s deserving of that ownership percentage. He’s not a very good quarterback, owners should be aware the he could flop if they start him.

We are going deep here. That means the obvious players that you select ahead of Mettenberger are not available. Atlanta is likely going to have a large lead in this game, which is going to give Mettenberger the opportunity to produce garbage time stats.

You wouldn’t think about starting him in most leagues, but if your in a bind in one of your deeper leagues then you might want to consider him.

Running Back

Charles Sims, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Sun 1:00 PM vs. Washington Redskins)

First off, Doug Martin is running hot right now and we need to temper are expectations on Sims. The odds of Sims blowing up and becoming the key contributor to winning your match-up is highly unlikely.

Sims is averaging 2.8 receptions per game and 38.6 receiving yards per game. Due to his role in the passing game, he is guaranteed to score some fantasy points this week. He’s not going to get the bulk of the carries, that’s Martin’s job, but he’s averaging 27 yards per game on the ground. In PPR leagues, he is averaging 6-7 fantasy points per game. He could exceed that average if he gets a touchdown or if game script dictates more passing volume.

Wide Receiver

Dorial Green-Beckham, Tennessee Titans (Sun 1:00 PM vs. Atlanta Falcons)

Green-Beckham is a talented young wide receiver who is slowly getting worked into the game-plan every week. Zach Mettenberger is a gunslinger and he loves showing off his strong arm. This could be a match made in fantasy football heaven.

Last week Beckham took part in 42 percent of the offensive snaps and saw six targets against the Miami Dolphins. His usage appears to be on the upswing, and he could be a nice asset to pluck off the waiver wire.

Odds are likely that Tennessee is going to be playing from behind in this game and he may receive extra targets in garbage time. Even if you don’t play him, Beckham is a great end of bench stash that could pay dividends for you fantasy team in the future.

Tight End

Gavin Escobar, Dallas Cowboys (Sun 4:25 PM vs. New York Giants)

This is a very deep waiver wire move. This is a move you make if your in a deeper league and you need to throw caution to the wind in hopes that the players obtains their up-side. He is owned in zero percent of ESPN leagues.

We don’t know what the Cowboys’ offense is going to look like this week against the Giants. They are doing some major changes with their offense and that could benefit Escobar.

He gets targeted mostly around the goal line as the Cowboys try to use his size to their advantage. He caught a touchdown pass during week one against the Giants. There’s a chance they could go to him again this week.
