The NFL Trade Deadline isn’t always exciting, but already a big name is popping up in rumors that could become a reality.

While the NFL trade deadline isn’t as exciting as what we see in baseball or hockey, there’s always the possibility for a deal that might involve a big name. Last year Percy Harvin was moved before the deadline in an uncharacteristic blockbuster deal and we might be in line for another trade like that this year.

According to Jason La Canfora from CBS Sports, there seems to be growing trade interest in 49ers tight end Vernon Davis.

There’s no certainty that Davis will be moved, but it’s interesting to hear that there is already trade bus ahead of the deadline. Unlike the other major sports leagues in America, the NFL isn’t one that have a fervor of trade activity at the deadline. Still, you can’t count out the possibility that there will be a big deal in the NFL as it’s happened in the past and will no doubt happen again at some point.

Working against a big trade is the fact that one happened last year, but that doesn’t mean it cancels out a potential deal this year. Davis is on a team that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and needs to start building for the future. Davis is far enough on his way down to be a believable trade target but is still good enough to be valuable to a contending team.

Teams like the Packers and Panthers are interesting targets, as they have receiving options but would be infinitely better with someone like Davis on the field to confuse defenses. That doesn’t mean a trade like that will happen, but Davis heading to a team like Colts or Giants might be something that adds enough to the offense to turn their season around.
