If Ronda Rousey went to the WWE full time, would she win the WWE Championship?
Ronda Rousey is a huge fan of professional wrestling and has continually talked – or been asked – about potentially returning to the WWE after appearing at WrestleMania 31.
Rousey is in favor of returning and would like to return, but if she were to return to the WWE on a full-time basis after retiring from the UFC, what is her potential? Could Ronda Rousey become the first woman ever to win the WWE Championship?
The folks on Reddit in the Squared Circle sub-Reddit debated it and here are some of their responses.
Some think it would be a savvy move from the WWE, one that could help change some opinions about wrestling.
From man_with_known_name:
"“…if WWE could manage to nab her, it would be an amazing marketing move. WWE would make headlines and be shown as progressive for once. If she does go make it big in Hollywood (such as starring in marvel movies etc) then possibility of them bringing up her being first ever WWE champion as a woman.”"
Some think Rousey is destined for Hollywood.
From DanHero91:
"“…in two years time her acting career is going to skyrocket and she’ll be cast in a Marvel movie (not as Captain Marvel like she wants, but something pretty decent.) and she’ll head off that way.”"
From insomniainc:
"She’s destined for much greater things then the WWE."
Some see the intergender match as the biggest hurdle, despite all the hypothetical debates about a fight between her and Floyd Mayweather.
From coffeencreme:
"No because the intergender matches are a thing of the past so she would have to win a vacated title which she would never be able to defend."
From DanHero91:
"“No, because we’re living in a world where it would be completely unacceptable to see Seth Rollins curb stomp a woman for the sake of a storyline.”"
And that disconnect from reality would be the issue.
From DCAbloob:
"No, Rousey’s popularity is based in reality. Her being better than every male wrestler in WWE would be the furthest thing from reality."
A lot of WWE fans wouldn’t want to see her involved in the WWE Championship picture because they’d rather she invest her time building up the Diva’s Title.
From new-to-this-thing:
"Why does she need the wwe championship? Her time is better invested in elevating the woman’s division and making it credible…"
From 17IsLucky:
"no she needs to make the conscious choice to support and elevate women’s wrestling. maybe she can pull a chyna and win the ic title, but that should be secondary."
I posed the question to FanSided’s “resident WWE expert” Jack Jorgensen, and this is what he said:
“I love Ronda, but no… it’s a slap in the face to the guys that have worked hard for that all their lives, sleeping in cars, working down in NXT, some from nothing. Bring in a celeb, male or female, pay them TONS more and slap that belt on them? No, disrespectful.
“…Make something out of the women’s title, that’s why it’s there. You have tons of male talent to keep your world title on.”
