Washington Huskies vs. No. 10 Stanford Cardinal
As one of the hottest teams in college football right now, the Stanford Cardinal have been absolutely on fire since a week one loss to the Northwestern Wildcats — a loss that left many people scratching their heads. Five straight wins later and the Cardinal could be a serious College Football Playoff threat if they can add a Pac-12 title to their resume.
On the other hand, the Washington Huskies have lost three games this season, all of which have been by six points or less and to quality, for the most part, opponents. The Huskies don’t have much of an offense to speak of, but give Chris Petersen some time, he will have this program right where it needs to be in a couple of seasons.
Stanford’s four conference wins have all been very impressive as the closest was by 10 points against USC on the road while the average margin of victory has been 19.3 points in Pac-12 play — and not against cupcake opponents. Kevin Hogan hasn’t needed to really air the ball out much and that’s partially due to the incredible play of sophomore running back Christian McCaffrey who has 844 yards and five touchdowns.
Washington has a solid young running back of its own as freshman Myles Gaskin, who’s actually listed as a fullback, currently leads the team with 498 rushing yards and five touchdowns. This offense is otherwise lethargic and the play of freshman quarterback Jake Browning has been acceptable, but he hasn’t exactly set the world on fire.
