In a move that most of us saw coming, the Miami Hurricanes have fired head football coach Al Golden

The Miami Hurricanes have fired head football coach Al Golden, the school announced on Sunday. This moves comes on the heels of the program suffering their worst loss in history on Saturday, a 58-0 thrashing by the Clemson Tigers at home. Needless to say, after that took place, this move is not all the least bit shocking. In his place, Assistant Coach Larry Scott will be handling the duties the remainder of the season.

Miami Athletic Director Blake James, who said on Sunday that a change was not in the cards, cited more or less that Golden is not the man to lead the Hurricanes back to prominence, which is ultimately what they have been seeking for years now.

"“Coach Golden has led our program through some very difficult times and he has done so with class, integrity and a true desire to see our students succeed on the field, in the classroom and in the community.” James said.  “However, we have a proud tradition of excellence at Miami, not just in football but in all sports, and we want to compete for ACC and national championships.  I simply believe that now is the time to bring the Hurricane Family together and rally behind our young men.”"

After a successful stint as the head coach of the Temple Owls, Miami hired Golden prior to the 2011 season, hoping that he could get things turned around on South Beach as well. Now, five seasons later, he leaves the school with a record of 32-25. His best season as the head man of the Canes came in 2013 when he led them to a 9-4 record. He’d make a return trip to a bowl game last season, but they have not been able to capitalize on that momentum thus far this year.

That being the case, it was time to cut ties. This was no more evident than during what was taking place on Saturday.

Now, one of the more interesting coaching searches will begin.
