The Philadelphia Eagles have been struggling to find their rhythm all season, and now they have another hurdle to overcome. Left tackle Jason Peters went down with a non-contact injury in the first quarter of Philadelphia’s game on Sunday Night Football against the Carolina Panthers, and stayed down for several minutes.

Peters was not able to get up on his own power, and was eventually carted off the field. While there is no official word on the injury yet, the replay was disturbing. Peters was in his shuffle while trying to block Carolina defensive end Jared Allen, and something in his right leg gave way. His leg/knee did not buckle or bend awkwardly, making you wonder about his Achilles tendon.

Peters is one of the best players in the game and an almost surefire Hall of Fame left tackle. Peters has reached the Pro Bowl seven times and been named to the All-Pro team on six occasions. Without Peters, the Eagles shifted guard Matt Tobin to left guard. With a very immobile quarterback (and a fragile one, at that) in Sam Bradford, the Eagles must scheme around what is becoming a horrific offensive line.

If Peters is out for a significant amount of time, Philadelphia is in all kinds of trouble. The only offensive linemen worth talking about on the Eagles (without Peters) are right tackle Lane Johnson and center Jason Kelce. The other spots are in flux and frankly, below average.
