Yahoo! live-streamed an NFL game for the first time ever on Sunday … aaaand Twitter lost its mind

Such is the nature of the rapidly advancing technological world:

  • Step 1: Create some novel invention, say an entertainment hub.
  • Step 2: Utilize said entertainment hub to break down the norms of traditional consumption – say, live streaming an NFL game.
  • Step 3: Sit back and let the grumps behind their keyboards and phones gripe in real time about the experience because, ya know, everything must absolutely be perfect on the first go-round.

Our latest example comes in the way of Yahoo! live streaming Sunday’s NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars. The contest took place across the drink in London at 9:30 a.m. ET, which means it was the perfect test case. Two less-than-stellar teams, both from small markets, playing a morning game that’s sure to be a slop fest – that’s when you debut online streaming only, not in some contest that actually may have playoff implications.

As expected, things were a wee bit rough around the edges. At times the picture was stellar; and at others it was fuzzy. Sometimes it was a crisp stream; other times it lagged like a mo. Since we demand perfection, damnit, folks decided to offer up their critique in real time. Give us the goods, Twitter.

And in the name of balanced “journalism” it wasn’t all doom and gloom against Yahoo!. Some folks were down for the cause and really enjoying the new viewing features.

“Half of the people can be part right all of the time. Some of the people can be all right part of the time. But all of the people can’t be all right all of the time.” I think Bob Dylan said that about Abraham Lincoln saying that … or something.
