Glen Rice Jr. shot in leg outside rapper TI’s restaurant
NBA player Glen Rice Jr. was shot in the leg after an altercation outside of rapper TI’s restaurant
Glen Rice Jr., who played briefly with the Washington Wizards in the NBA last season, was involved in a fight at Scales 925—an upscale restaurant owned by rapper TI—in Atlanta, GA last night. The fight spilled out into the parking lot and left the NBA player with a gunshot wound in his leg, according to TMZ.
While that’s certainly not pleasant news, things look pretty bleak for Rice Jr. The police involved in the situation say they have footage of Rice ditching a gun of his own in a stairwell as he was fleeing the restaurant. That’s pretty damning, but it keeps on going.
Rice fled the scene in a Porsche, the vehicle that police pulled over to find the former Wizard bleeding from his leg. Once pulled over, they searched the Porsche and found over a half-pound of marijuana and few thousand dollars in cash in the car. He was arrested and charged with reckless conduct and possession of marijuana.
Judging by the tone of the initial reports from the incident, Rice’s injuries from the gunshot wound don’t appear to be serious or life-threatening. However, that doesn’t make it any less crazy that a player who was playing in the NBA up until January of this year and was then playing in the D-League is involved in a situation like this.
The Wizards drafted Glen Rice Jr. in the second round of the 2013 NBA Draft with the 35th overall pick. He was selected out of the D-League, though, after his dismissal from Georgia Tech.
Rice’s dismissal from the Yellow Jackets program is somewhat related to this developing story as the dismissal stemmed from an incident where Rice was driving under the influence and shooting a gun, an incident which he was charged for then as well.
Rice has only played in 16 career NBA games during his brief career, with production of little or no consequence. As a young player, there was still a chance that he could make it to being a role player at the professional level. After this incident, though, that seems like it’s probably not going to be happening.
