Before the Royals take on the Mets in Game 3, Billy Joel will be performing the national anthem before the first World Series game at Citi Field.

It’s World Series time, and that means it’s time for both teams competing to bring out the big guns when it comes to national anthems and ceremonial first pitches. The Royals have already announced that Royals legend George Brett would be throwing out the first pitch of Game 1 in Kansas City.

With the first-ever World Series game being played at Citi Field on Friday, the Mets are bringing out some big guns of their own, in regards to the national anthem. According to Ken Davidoff, the “Piano Man” himself, Billy Joel, will be performing the national anthem before Game 3 of the World Series.

National anthems before championship games are always some of the most memorable events in sports, and live on in history forever. For the Mets, having a legend perform the national anthem before their first World Series game in 15 years was an absolute must.

Getting Billy Joel without a doubt will have the New York crowd rolling as they prepare to defend their home turf against Kansas City. The arms race between the Royals and Mets in in-game entertainment during the World Series has officially begun.
