After re-signing with the New York Giants, can Jason Pierre-Paul help the Giants make the playoffs?

The New York Giants made big news on Tuesday, when the team announced that they have re-signed defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul. Pierre-Paul had missed the beginning of the season after a fireworks accident cost him part of his fingers.

Well through hard work, dedication and the love for his team, the Giants officially re-signed Pierre-Paul on Tuesday. He is expected to work with the medical staff extensively as he works to get back on the field, and if all goes well he should be back in a few weeks.

The big question is, with the Giants atop the NFC East but in a tight battle with the rest of the teams, can Pierre-Paul help the Giants make the playoffs? It all depends on if he can work through his hand injury and get that same push off the ground.

If he can and he is healthy, Pierre-Paul can provide the pass rushing presence that the Giants desperately need. In 2014, Pierre-Paul had 12.5 sacks and was an absolute force to be dealt with. This year, the Giants through seven games, only have nine sacks as a team and Damontre Moore leads the team with three sacks.

Needless to say, with the lack of a pass rush, the Giants are not making things easier on their secondary. Getting Pierre-Paul back, could be the huge boost that the team needs at the right time. When he is healthy and right, he is the best pass rusher on the team and one of the premier talents in the NFL.

Getting into game shape mid-season won’t be easy however, but he might have an advantage, where he won’t have the wear and tear on him toward the end of the season that most players do. That means if he is more fresh and is showing an ability to rush the passer, the Giants might have caught a huge break and could very well be crowned NFC East Champions.
