Key Offseason Additions

Shooting guard. Previously with Minnesota Timberwolves. GARY NEAL. FA. With a $2.1 million contract, the Wizards added some three point shooting and instant bench scoring with Gary Neal. He’s had memorable playoff performances with the San Antonio Spurs in the past, and his ability to catch fire from deep is what gives Washington’s bench a much needed boost. They only ranked 15th in bench points per game with 33.5, so the quick-trigger shooting of Neal can certainly make a difference in around 10-15 minutes a game.

Previously with Milwaukee Bucks. JARED DUDLEY. T. Similarly to Neal, the Wizards trading for Jared Dudley was due to their need of bench scoring and three point shooting. He only averaged 7.2 points per game last season, but his 38.5 percent three point shooting is a welcome addition. The real way that Dudley can help the Wizards even further, though, is with the versatility he offers. He can lineup at shooting guard, small forward or even power forward if necessary. In the upcoming regular season debut of the Wizards’ new fluid offense, the use of Dudley at various positions in a small ball lineup could create valuable floor spacing.. Forward

Key Offseason Losses

FA. The loss of Paul Pierce is the biggest blow dealt to the Wizards in free agency this summer, but the loss of Kevin Seraphin is noteworthy, too. He may have only played 15.6 minutes per game, but his averages of 15.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per 36 minutes show his production. He brought an interior presence that’s always important off the bench, and the struggling New York Knicks should be grateful to have signed him.. C. Signed with New York Knicks. KEVIN SERAPHIN
