San Antonio Spurs – Ray Allen’s shot in the 2013 NBA Finals

If the Spurs had not won the 2014 NBA Championship, this moment would stand out even more than it already does. However, San Antonio’s 2013 disappointment set the stage for their mission to reclaim glory the following season, and Ray Allen was at the center of everything.

In the closing seconds of Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals, Chris Bosh caught an errant rebound from a LeBron James miss, flipped the ball to a streaking Allen in the corner, and one of the best shooters in NBA history did what he does best.

Knock it down.

Ray Allen connected on a three-pointer with 5.2 seconds remaining, and without the benefit of video, it can only be described as a miraculous play. Allen’s footwork was picture-perfect, his delivery was pure and in the end, the Spurs succumbed to the Heat when it seemed like they were destined to capture the series victory.

Later, the Heat would use that momentum to carry themselves to a Game 7 victory as well, and San Antonio’s gut-wrenching defeat would have sunk most teams for years to come. Fortunately, Tim Duncan, Gregg Popovich and company were resilient, but at the same time, we should not overlook just how brutal this loss was in the fashion in which it took place.

Ray Allen’s shot gave LeBron James and Dwyane Wade a second straight title, and Spurs fans can’t let it go.

Even after a win the following season.
