Austin Rivers fined $25K for throwing seat cushion into stands
Clippers guard Austin Rivers has been fined $25,000 for throwing a seat cushion into the spectators
Austin Rivers figures to be one of the key figures on the bench of the Los Angeles Clippers coming into the 2015-16 NBA season. He carved out the role for himself on the team coached by his father, Doc Rivers, after joining the Clippers last season, but the team will look for him to be even better after another year of building chemistry and growing as a professional. However, he might want to cut down on throwing seat cushions into the stands.
During the Clippers’ season opener on Wednesday night against the Sacramento Kings, Rivers and the Clips were heading over to the bench for a timeout when Rivers picked up the cushion on his seat and chucked it towards the baseline seats, which can be seen on NBA.com here.
On Thursday evening, the NBA offices sent down word that Rivers has been fined $25,000 for the incident:
That’s certainly not a good look, especially considering that the cushion he threw definitely appears to hit a fan right in the face from looking at the video. Why would Rivers think that would be a good thing to do in the first place?
Regardless of what he was thinking, at least the league is cracking down on this before everything breaks out into a cushion-throwing melee.
