Fantasy Basketball Sleeper Values

Fantasy Basketball leagues typically are not won with the first few picks, rather the late round sleepers that put teams over the top. Here are some sleeper values that have potential to be this year’s surprise success story and put your fantasy basketball team over the top!

Point Guard: Elfrid Payton (ESPN Average Draft Position: 96.8)

Most remember Payton by his signature hairstyle, but he posted an overall solid rookie season. His shooting stroke still needs some work (shot a below average 42% FG and 55% FT percentage), but he showed an ability to be a triple double threat as the leader of the Magic. He ended his rookie season on a high note, notching at least 9 assists in half of his final 26 games. With another year of maturation under his belt and an even stronger Magic squad, Payton could be still available towards the start of the tenth round.

Shooting Guard: Alec Burks (ADP: 118.9)

Coming off of a season-ending shoulder injury, Alec Burks is an intriguing late-round value. Burks posses a good shooting stroke, with the ability to also knock down three-pointers. A great deal of Burks value resides in his opportunity, as he is locked in as the starter on a lackluster Jazz backcourt. Look for Burks to have plenty of opportunity to contribute with Dante Exum out for the season.

Small Forward: Otto Porter Jr. (ADP: 113)

One of the surprise shinning stars of the playoffs, the former 3rd overall pick is finally starting to flash great potential. After averaging 10.3 PPG and an impressive 8.5 RPG, Porter now steps into a starting role after the departure of Paul Pierce. On a Wizards squad featuring consistent dime dropping from John Wall, Porter has a solid chance to contribute a decent point total, along with a healthy rebound total playing some small-ball power forward.

Power Forward: Ersan Ilyasova (ADP: 121.2)

Acquired by the Pistons over the summer, Ilyasova has had a career of being a frustratingly inconsistent player. Every time he took a stride with the Bucks, he would follow it up by slipping his effort. On the Pistons however, Ilyasova moves to a far more suitable role, being coach Stan Van Gundy’s main stretch four to accompany center Andre Drumond. Ilyasova has a great chance to chip in several 3’s a game, along with healthy rebound and points totals.

Center: Tyson Chandler (ADP: 105.7)

He may be getting up there in age, but Tyson Chandler has been one of the most consistent centers in basketball over the past decade. Signing with the Suns in the summer, Chandler is a great fit on a Suns team that needs a strong force in the paint. With play-making guards like Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight, Chandler should also be on the receiving end of a lot of alley-oop passes. Don’t be shocked if he ends up averaging a double-double at year’s end.
