The Indiana Pacers crowd had the perfect burn for Matt Barnes

Matt Barnes had an interesting offseason this year as the veteran forward was traded twice over the course of 10 days before ultimately finding a home with the Memphis Grizzlies. However, that’s nothing compared to the fact that he left the Grizzlies’ preseason training camp to drive up the California coast to physically attack New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher because Fisher was at his estranged wife’s house.

Barnes’ confrontation with Fisher is one of the strangest stories in NBA history and something that players, fans, and anyone who heard the story will not soon forget. As the Grizzlies took on the Indiana Pacers on Thursday night, it was pretty clear that the Pacers crowd didn’t forget as Barnes was met with “Derek Fisher” chants while he was at the foul line:

How literally everyone on the court that isn’t Matt Barnes doesn’t bust out in uncontrollably fits of laughter in that moment is the pinnacle of self-control.

It’s only the third night of the NBA season and the second game of the year for the Grizzlies and Barnes is already hearing it from fans about the incident with Fisher. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I’d guess this will be a running narrative for the rest of the year.
