Detroit Pistons guard Jodie Meeks is out with a Jones fracture in his right foot, and has no estimated time of return yet.

As the Detroit Pistons defeated the Utah Jazz 92-87 on Wednesday night, their 28-year-old shooting guard Jodie Meeks suffered a Jones fracture in his right foot and left with nine minutes remaining in the second quarter. The injury is a broken bone at the base of the small toe, meaning that even though there is no timetable for his return yet, there’s a good chance that Meeks will be out for several weeks at least.

Keith Langlois of Pistons.com reported the injury, while also adding that Pistons wing Reggie Bullock may receive some extra minutes as a result:

To add some context to Meeks’ injury, Kevin Durant had the same problem last season. The former MVP and four-time scoring champ had the exact same injury, and it put him on the bench for seven weeks as he waited to recover.

Aaron McMann of MLive has reported what Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy had to say on the injury:

"“We’ll get further assessment and know better on a timetable in the next couple of days,” Van Gundy said. “But they, they X-rayed him, he’s got a Jones fracture. You feel bad for the guy. Last year, it’s the first exhibition game. He plays one exhibition game and he goes out. And now he comes back in great shape, came off a really good last preseason game, and gets a fracture tonight. He’s sort of snake bit right now and I feel for him.”"

It’s a tough blow for Meeks, especially as he was only able to play 17 total minutes this season before suffering the injury. Hopefully for the Pistons, they’ll have their sharpshooting sixth man back as soon as possible, and his return will be closer to one month rather than two.

Last season with the Pistons, Meeks averaged 11.1 points per game while shooting 41.6 percent from the floor and 34.9 percent from three point range. With his reliable mid-range game (47.3 percent from 10-16 feet out), he was a viable threat to provide some offensive energy off the bench.

Until he returns, though, the Pistons will have to make the most of the other talented perimeter players they have at their disposal, such as Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and rookie Stanley Johnson.
