Cavs point guard Matthew Dellavedova found Tristan Thompson for a monster alley-oop

The saga revolving around Tristan Thompson and the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason and lasting into the preseason was one of the more polarizing storylines around the NBA. It seemed as if neither team was going to budge from the perceived stalemate until the Cavs ultimately broke and signed Thompson to a five-year, $82 million deal. Now Thompson is on the floor to start the season and already making big plays for his team.

Towards the end of the first quarter against the Miami Heat, Thompson went to the perimeter to set a screen for point guard Matthew Dellavedova and set up the pick-and-roll. Both players found space as Thompson rolled to the rim and Delly hit the now well-paid big man with a beautiful lob that Thompson finished with authority:

Even if that didn’t end in a thunderous jam from Thompson, that’s just a beautifully executed pick-and-roll set. The fact that the Cavs power forward happened to throw it down in a big way is only an added bonus.

Thompson, despite what he’s being paid, is part of a crowded frontcourt in Cleveland these days. However, when he’s capable of making plays like that in the pick-and-roll, it’s impossible not to see his value to this Cleveland team.
