Roddy Piper Has Something To Say To All Mets Fans
By Paulo Acoba
We hope whomever is in charge of Game 3 pre-game festivities at Citi Field will hopefully play this to pump up some beleaguered Mets fans.
Rest in piece Roddy Piper and even though you may be gone, your words ring true today. Thanks to Micheal Pretnar and his youtube upload earlier Thursday, words spoken by Piper more than 29 years ago when coincidentally the NY Mets were in the exact same situation, still have the same effect.
The Mets find themselves two games down to the Kansas City Royals in the 2015 World Series. Since the upload, the video has garnered thousands of views within hours and many fans are checking in on the comments in total agreement with the late Piper. Have a look at the video below.
If you’re wondering why exactly a native Saskatchewan is rallying the Mets in the first place, a bit of context might be called for. The day before Game 3 of the 1986 World Series, the WWF and its whole circus rolled into New York’s Madison Square Garden for one of their live events.
According to WGRD, during a segment called Piper’s Pit, Rowdy Roddy Piper appealed to the NY Mets fans in the stadium even when they booed him for even asking about the Mets in the first place. In a rousing speech worthy of a pro-wresting submission to the Academy Awards, Piper shouts out in his iconic deep scruffy voice that the Mets still have a chance and they shouldn’t lose faith in their home team.
The crowd immediately erupts in agreement and the rest is history. If you didn’t know, the Mets do end up winning against the Red Sox in a dramatic seven-game win that saw the Mets down 3-0 in the 6th inning. Their bats came alive in the next three innings with 9 runs scored, dominating the Red Sox.
