Florida trounces Georgia for the second year in a row

The rivalry matchup between the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs started off looking like it was going to be a drag-it-out, ugly, slugfest between these two storied programs as the Gators offense led by Treon Harris struggled to get anything going and new starting quarterback Faton Bauta couldn’t get anything going on the offensive side of the ball for Georgia, either. However, the tide all turned towards the end of the first quarter when the Bulldogs tried to field a punt inside their own 10-yard line, muffed it, and the Gators recovered in the endzone to take a 6-0 lead. The Gators never looked back from there.

Harris started to find at least somewhat of a rhythm after he connected with Antonio Callaway on a 66-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Running back Kelvin Taylor also got the ball moving on the ground as he found his way across the goal line on two occasions. However, the heart of the Gators was their defense, their secondary in particular. They picked off the inexperienced Bauta four times on the afternoon and the offense benefitted on a number of occasions from great field position and ultimately getting points off of those turnovers. After an ugly start, it wound up being all Gators in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

Three stars

Kelvin Taylor was a monster for the Gators moving the ball in the running game. He carried the ball 25 times on the day for 121 yards and two touchdowns.

There weren’t a ton of receptions to be had, but Antonio Callaway came up big in the receiving game as the big man hauled in three catches for 110 yards and a score.

The Florida secondary as a whole was phenomenal and deserves a ton of credit for their performance. They recorded four interceptions on the afternoon and made life hard for the Georgia offense.
