Anquan Boldin penalized for fighting Rams in street clothes (Video)

The 49ers didn’t activate Anquan Boldin this weekend, but that didn’t stop him from getting in on the action while fighting Rams players.
Despite the fact that he was ruled inactive today for the San Francisco 49ers game against the St. Louis Rams, that didn’t stop wide receiver Anquan Boldin from throwing down during a scrum.
Boldin didn’t actually throw any punches in the fight, but he entered the playing field while in street clothes while a scrum was happening — something the NFL dens’t look fondly upon. The officiating crew shared this sentiment and penalized Boldin for stepping onto the field.
This isn’t an exclusive rule to the NFL. In fact, the NBA is a lot harsher on these sort of things when players step onto the court when a fight is happening. Most notoriously, the Phoenix Suns were slammed by this rule when a fight occurred on the court, didn’t really go near it but were still suspended — in the playoffs.
It’s unclear if there will be further discipline for Boldin after this, but he was penalized nonetheless for stepping onto the field. So even though he’s not out there getting yards or points for the Niners, he’s racking up penalty yards while sitting the game out.
