The Chicago Bears are 2-5 and trying desperately to claw back into the NFC wild card playoff race. However, they had a tough loss and bad news on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field against the Minnesota Vikings.
Chicago fell short against the Vikings, moving to 2-5 and might have lost running back Matt Forte. Forte left the game in the second half with a knee injury and did not return. At this juncture, it is hard to determine the severity of the injury.
Forte is the heart and soul of Chicago’s offense. Last year, Forte led the team in rushing and added 102 receptions. This season, Forte has 507 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns along with 21 receptions. After general manager Ryan Pace traded away wide receiver Brandon Marshall, and first-round rookie receiver Kevin White was hurt in the offseason, the offense was clearly going to rely on Forte and Alshon Jeffery.
Forte is in his eighth season since being a second-round draft pick out of Tulane University back in 2008. He has been able to amass five 1,000-yard seasons and 60 total touchdowns. Forte has been one of the most underrated players in the league since his rookie campaign, putting together a borderline Hall of Fame resume. Without Forte, Chicago would have one of the worst offenses in the league.
The Bears have struggled in recent seasons, dealing with the two years of nothingness under head coach Marc Trestman. Now, the franchise is trying to rebuild under first-year man John Fox.
