The New York Mets are playing for their baseball lives on Sunday night against the Kansas City Royals in Game 5 of the World Series at Citi Field.
New York tabbed Matt Harvey to start the game after getting a no-decision in Game 1, which eventually became a defeat in 14 innings. On Sunday, Harvey has been nothing short of sensational, pitching eight shutout innings on 103 pitches. After the eighth inning, Harvey came into the dugout and was told by pitching coach Dan Warthen that he was being yanked for the bullpen. Harvey was having none of it.
After arguing with Warthen, Harvey then went over and pleaded his case to manager Terry Collins, who decided to give Harvey the benefit of the doubt after this exchange.

That is just awesome. Even if the Mets end up losing the game, Harvey has the guts that so many players completely lack these days. New York might go down to a superior team in the Royals, but Harvey’s guts have to be commended.
As pointed out on the FOX broadcast by writer and color commentator Tom Verducci, this was extremely similar to when Jack Morris told Minnesota Twins manager Tom Kelly that he was not coming out of a 0-0 contest in Game 7. Morris pitched 10 innings, and he won.
