Yesterday was a pivotal day for many basketball prospects around the globe with the NBA D-League holding their annual draft. The draft wasn’t live streamed in any way, shape of form, so many were left vigorously refreshing the D-League’s site or relying on people, like myself, live-tweeting the event.
Naturally, with social media running the show, shenanigans can — and usually will — pop up out of nowhere. This day was no different, as two D-League teams had a GIF battle that all started with a little barb from the Texas Legends.

Only on social media will you find an interaction like this with Conan O’Brien, Kanye West, Taylor Swift and some twin from the early 90s. Clearly the Warriors come out on top in this mini-battle seeing as they pulled the Championship card and have the clout to back it up.
Since moving to Santa Cruz — the team was previously the Dakota Wizards — the Warriors have enjoyed three straight winning seasons, three straight trips to the D-League Finals and one championship, which they will attempt to defend this season. Since moving to Texas — the team was previously the Colorado 14ers — the Legends have had five straight seasons below .500, with only one playoff appearance.
Nevertheless, we still appreciate the shade throwing that always rears its head in a Twitter GIF battle.
Good try, good effort, Texas.
