Chargers WR Keenan Allen will miss some time with kidney injury

San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen is out indefinitely after suffering a kidney injury during Sunday’s game.
In a week that will live in infamy, the San Diego Chargers were not exempt from the injury bug. The team will be without their No. 1 wide receiver for a while. During the game against the Baltimore Ravens, Keenan Allen made a leaping touchdown catch, but left the game with what appeared to be a shoulder injury and would not return. It was later reported to be back spasms, but that wasn’t the case either.
San Diego Union-Tribune beat writer Michael Gehlken tweeted that Chargers Head Coach Mike McCoy said Allen has a kidney injury and there is no timetable for return.
This is a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing is that it’s not as serious as the other injuries that happened on Sunday, but the star wide receiver is still going to miss some time. The Chargers are already dealing with injuries to their tight ends, Antonio Gates (MCL) and Ladarius Green (ankle).
The Chargers led the league in passing yards per game, and having Allen for Philip Rivers to throw it to is a big reason. Allen is second among wide receivers with 67 receptions and third with 725 yards. Those receptions have to go somewhere.
The passing offense is one of the best in the league, but will drop off with the absence of Allen. The team could use all the help it can get in order to stay competitive in the AFC. You should expect Gates (when healthy), Stevie Johnson, and Malcom Floyd, who had a big game on Sunday, to receive more work while Allen is out.
