Kobe Bryant had one of the worst possessions you’ll ever see against the Mavs

The Los Angeles Lakers were one of the most intriguing teams heading into the 2015-16 NBA season for a number of reasons. With the players they brought in this offseason through free agency, trades, and the draft, it was curious to see how this team would work on the floor. More than any of those things, though, it was intriguing to see how 37-year-old Kobe Bryant would look coming off of an injury-plagued past couple of seasons.

If this possession is any indication, the answer to how Kobe would look this season is not great at all:

There was a time when that possession would have been typical Kobe and he would have drilled the step-back jumper right in the defender’s eye. That time was also a time when he wasn’t 37 years old. Now it’s just sad seeing him try to do things he’s simply not capable of anymore.

As the Lakers have gotten off to an abysmal 0-2 start, Kobe hasn’t been much of a bright spot. He’s leading the Lakers in scoring over the first two games, but doing so while dishing out only two assists per game and while shooting 36.1 percent from the floor and 4-21 shooting from three.

It’s never pleasant seeing a former superstar playing when he’s past his prime, but we might be in that period with Kobe. From the way he’s started off this season and the way he looked trying to work in his bread and butter isolation play, this could be a long year for Bryant and the Lakers.
