Ranking every World Series winners in history
By Staff
There’s nothing like seeing your favorite MLB team win the World Series. We have all the World Series winners ranked for you guys.
This post was an ambitious idea conceived at the beginning of this year’s MLB Playoffs by the entire FanSided staff. With the Chicago Cubs vying to change the course of history, the New York Mets gunning to overcome years of futility and the Royals looking to take care of unfinished business there was a palpable buzz surrounding Major League Baseball.
When discussing all the intriguing story lines for the year, talk among the staff eventually shifted to our favorite World Series moments of all-time – Jack Morris mowing down the Atlanta Braves in 1991, Luis Gonzalez blooping a single to end a Yankees dynasty, Willie Mays making The Catch, Babe Ruth calling his shot, and the list goes on. Flashbulb moments transitioned to full series, and we began debating the greatest teams of all-time. The task was set in that moment.
In order to undertake this leviathan task, we first composed a document to grade out all 111 World Series winners (sliding the 2015 field up and down throughout the playoffs) and then recruited Nicholas Allen to write on each team after rankings had been set.
Beyond simply being a fan of the sport, Allen worked in professional baseball prior to his career as a freelance journalist. He held a wide range of front office positions, including Assistant General Manager for the minor league Helena Brewers, an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.
In going about the list, we’ve also taken a look at who might become the 112th member of MLB royalty. What follows is a prediction for next season, followed by the grading out of all 111 World Series champions in Major League Baseball history.
