112. 2016 World Series prediction
Before going back, let’s take a look at the game’s future and peg just what teams might make a run for the 2016 World Series.
Major League Baseball is currently in a talent boon, and many of the top teams vying for a ring boast young squads with tremendous upside. The Chicago Cubs core of Addison Russell, Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber, Anthony Rizzo and Jake Arrieta took their team to the brink of a pennant before falling to the Mets. Speaking of the Mets, despite losing the 2015 Fall Classic in heartbreaking fashion New York is flush with pitching that will buoy the club.
In the American League, Houston came out of the woodwork one year earlier than expected. Dallas Keuchel is a bonafide ace, Lance McCullers has great stuff and Carlos Correa is an MVP candidate in the making. The Toronto Blue Jays went all-in for 2015, and though they’ll likely lose David Price, are still positioned nicely for the following season. And then there’s the defending champion Royals who play small ball finer than any team in the majors.
As for the stalwarts, we’re heading into an even-numbered year, which means you can pencil in the San Francisco Giants and feel comfortable. Also, underachieving big spenders like the Dodgers and Red Sox will undoubtedly open the purse strings to turn things around.
End of the day, Theo Epstein works his magic again and reverses the curse for the second time in his professional career. Back to the Future was one year off, and the Chicago Cubs taste championship glory for the first time since 1908.
But enough looking towards the future. Let’s jump to the past and rank the 111 teams that have won Major League Baseball’s World Series.
