96-66, AL East Champions, Won World Series 4-0 Over Colorado

The city of Boston suffered through 86 years between World Championships until the 2004 Red Sox won the World Series. It only took three years for them to win another.

The 2007 Red Sox won the American League East with a record of 96-66, and ace Josh Beckett won 20 of those games. Beckett’s 20-7 record, 3.27 ERA and 194 strikeouts in 200.2 innings across 30 starts, made him the runner up for the American League Cy Young Award. As a staff, the Red Sox led the AL with a 3.87 ERA thanks to strong seasons from Curt Schilling (9-8, 3.27) and Jonathan Papelbon (1.85, 37 saves) who earned three saves in the 4-0 World Series sweep over the Colorado Rockies.

David Ortiz led the Boston offense in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.332), on-base percentage (.445), slugging percentage (.621), home runs (35) and runs scored (116). Mike Lowell had a career year, hitting .324.378/.501 with 21 home runs and 120 RBI during the regular season and capped it with the World Series MVP Award.
