The Tennessee Titans have fired Ken Whisenhunt, who has been the coach for the past two seasons.

The Tennessee Titans announced Tuesday morning that team has fired head coach Ken Whisenhunt. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported that the Titans cut ties with Whisenhunt, who was only hired in January of 2014.

Whisenhunt’s firing comes after last week’s game loss against AFC South rival, the Houston Texans, who entered the game with a 2-5 record.

Overall, the Titans were an abysmal 3-20 under Whisenhunt, including 1-6 this season. If the Titans finish under .500 this season, then it would mark the fourth straight year in which the team has lost more games than it has won.

This season Whisenhunt was blessed with rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota, but Mariota has missed the past two games with a knee injury, forcing the team to start backup Zach Mettenberger.

The Titans have struggled significantly to produce any semblance of offense under Whisenhunt. The team ranks last in total yards on offense and is second to last in total points.

The team has not announced a replacement for Whisenhunt, however Rappaport notes that this might be an intriguing position given how the team has players with significant potential.
