Former NFL quarterback Brady Quinn is blaming PED use for the NFL’s recent trend of injuries to star players. Going on the Roughing the Passer podcast to blast the league’s HGH use.

The NFL is currently going through a bit of an injury crisis for a list of star players. Steve Smith, Keenan Allen and Le’Veon Bell all being lost for the year going into November as offensive stars appear to be dropping left and right in an unfortunate turn of events for several teams hoping to be in the AFC Wild Card race.

Former NFL quarterback and Notre Dame star Brady Quinn thinks he knows why season ending injuries are becoming a trend around the league. His answer: Performance Enhancing Drugs. The former face of the Fighting Irish before becoming an NFL bust claiming that the use of HGH and other PED’s are the reason why so many injuries are happening this season.

Quinn was on the Roughing the Passer podcast on CBS Sports this week and took the PED culture in the NFL to task as a reason for a spike in injuries. Making several bold statements despite saying he wasn’t trying to be a whistleblower in potentially pulling the curtain on widespread PED use in the league.

From CBS Sports:

"Quinn thinks the problem might have to do with supplements like HGH that make players bigger but also make them more prone to injury.“I’m not going to be a whistleblower and I’m not accusing anyone of anything,” Quinn said. “There’s got to be something these guys are taking. That’s what I think at least.”“I’m not accusing anyone,” Quinn said. “But I think the usage of of HGH or performance enhancing drugs or supplements is greater now than it’s ever been because the money is bigger now than it’s ever been and the punishment isn’t really that bad if you think about it.”"

Quinn’s comments are certainly bold, but the NFL hands out handfuls of PED suspensions every year so the former Browns quarterback can’t be too far off in his claims about HGH use within the league. Whether or not HGH use is the reason for an increase in injuries to star players is up for debate, but there is certainly something to Quinn’s claims about the NFL’s PED problems.
