Manu Ginobili put a little too much spin on this pass to Danny Green
Manu Ginobili and the San Antonio Spurs have earned the reputation around the NBA as one of the soundest teams in the league. Whether it’s with fundamentals or with flare, the Spurs always seem to be one of those teams that rarely makes mistakes. Ginobili happened to make one of those rare mistakes on Wednesday night, though.
Early in the fourth quarter, Ginobili poked away the ball from the Washington Wizards and tried to initiate a fast break with a pass up the floor to Danny Green. With a little flash, Ginobili put a bit of backspin on the ball like he’s done countless other times. Only this time, the spin actually impeded the fast break as it messed up Green’s catch and caused a turnover:
That’s about as un-Spurs like a play can get, especially when the Spurs are the team involved. Had Ginobili just thrown a normal bounce pass up ahead, Green would’ve likely had an easy two points.
Considering what Ginobili and the Spurs have accomplished over the past decade-and-a-half, I don’t think we can grill them too hard over this one play. If we did, Ginobili could just hold up his four NBA Championship rings and that pretty much trumps all.
