Tony Romo is back on the field, taking part in individual throwing drills for the first time since suffering a broken clavicle in week 2.

This is the news Dallas Cowboys‘ fans have been waiting for. Quarterback Tony Romo is back on the football field after the 11-year veteran was hit hard in the second half of a Week 2 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, suffering a broken collarbone in the process. Romo did not require surgery on the collarbone, but was placed on IR with designation to return.

Being placed on IR-DTR means he will be unable to play until Week 11, when the Cowboys travel to face a rejuvenated Miami Dolphins team. In the meantime, Dallas will be relying on Matt Cassel to steer the ship.

Head coach Jason Garrett spoke of the positive impact Romo has had from the sidelines, while also looking forward to the return of his star quarterback, per the team’s official website.

"“One of the things about Tony is in his absence he always stays engaged. It’s not like he has been away. But it will be nice to see him out there throwing a little bit. He has a great way about him. He is a natural leader. He has been really helpful during the week of preparation and also during the game for the other quarterbacks and whole football team.”"

The Cowboys have struggled with major injuries on the offensive side of the ball this season, as star wide receiver Dez Bryant underwent surgery after a Week 1 metatarsal injury. Losing your starting quarterback and wide receiver in the opening two weeks is a tough start to the campaign, and the Cowboys have consequently struggled to cope, slipping to a 2-5 record.

However, all hope for the season is not lost. In a drastically poor NFC East, the Cowboys are still in contention to win the division, and with return of Bryant last week, and now the imminent return of Romo, the postseason is most certainly within their grasp.
