Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob and his fiancée slept with the Larry O’Brien trophy last year after the Warriors won the title.

If you get a chance to touch the Golden State Warriors’ Larry O’Brien trophy, you may want to disinfect your hands afterwards, because it’s been on a bit of a bumpy ride the past few months.

The Warriors just recently got their championship rings and got to see their banner lifted up to the rafters as the season opened, but they got to hold and claim the Larry O’Brien trophy the night they defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers and won the championship this past June. Co-owner Joe Lacob took advantage of the situation and did something with the trophy that he had been wanting to do that same night

Lacob and his fiancée slept with the trophy in the bed the night that the Warriors won. It wouldn’t have been all that odd if it was just Lacob, but him adding the detail about his fiancée being there too makes the situation a little weird, to say the least.

Lacob told Haute Living that he had made a promise to himself that he would sleep with the trophy the night the Warriors won, and fulfilled that promise.

The Larry O’Brien trophy, which is valued to be $13,500, is made every year, and personalized for every team with their name etched into the trophy. Luckily for whichever team wins the NBA Finals this year (if it’s not the Warriors), they won’t have to have that image haunting them as they hoist the trophy above their heads.
